Bench Test Preparation

Master the bench, before the bench tests you

Hands-on training in the core clinical skills U.S. dental schools assess on the bench — taught in small classes of no more than four students, so every preparation gets individual feedback.

Curriculum

What you'll prepare

Every preparation U.S. schools commonly test — practiced until it's second nature.

1

Class II cavity preparation

Amalgam & composite on molars and premolars — all four quadrants.

2

Class III cavity preparation

Cavity preparation on an anterior tooth.

3

Composite restoration on an anterior tooth

Esthetic anterior composite — Class III and Class IV restorations for natural form and function.

4

PFM / zirconia crown preparation

Crown preparation on molars.

5

Ceramic crown preparation

Crown preparation on anterior teeth.

6

Bridge preparation (optional)

Recommended for specialty-program applicants. Includes maxillary anterior ACC bridge prep (#9–#11) required by certain schools (e.g., University of Puerto Rico).

Break bad habits

Stop practicing the wrong way

Repetition only helps if you're repeating the right thing. Here's what we catch and correct, preparation by preparation.

  • Over-tapered axial walls

Correct taper for retention & resistance

  • Rough, open margins

    Smooth, well-defined, closed margins

  • Inconsistent prep depth

    Controlled, even depth to spec

  • Sloppy outline form

    Clean, conservative outline form

  • Running out of time

Time management that finishes in the window

  • Awkward hand & finger rests

Stable hand positioning and fulcrum control

  • Flat or over-reduced contour

    Anatomic contour and proper reduction

  • Unfinished surfaces

    A polished, examiner-ready finish

We focus on the core operative and crown preparations U.S. programs commonly evaluate, while helping you adapt to your target schools' specific instructions.

The 5-day program ends with a full mock test on Day 5 — a dress rehearsal under real exam pressure, with direct, preparation-by-preparation feedback, so you walk into the real bench already knowing what it feels like.

Continuing-education credits are available through an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. • “She treated my journey as her own. Getting into USC Herman Ostrow is a dream come true.” I'm forever grateful to Dr. Navreet and Say Cheez Dental Academy for the guidance and support during my bench-test preparation for the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, USC. From day one she believed in me. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, and her feedback was precise, practical, and confidence-building. She treated my journey as her own. Getting into USC Herman Ostrow is a dream come true, and the Academy played a huge role in making it real.

  • “Very well structured — it helped me understand exactly what U.S. dental schools expect during bench exams.” I highly recommend Dr. Sidhu's bench preparation course to international dentists preparing for advanced-standing programs. The course is very well structured and helped me understand what U.S. dental schools expect during bench exams. Questions

Bench Test FAQ

How small are the classes?

Very small by design — no more than 4 students at any given time — so every preparation gets direct, individual feedback.

What materials are provided?

Everything you need: typodont, practice teeth, burs, and instruments (probe, explorer, spoon excavator, hatchet, forceps).

Which format should I choose?

Most students choose the 5-day program (35 CE credits, through an ADA CERP Recognized Provider) — it gives you the most hands-on practice and finishes with a full mock test on Day 5, a realistic dry run before the real bench exam. The 3-day program (21 CE credits) is a good fit if you mainly need small corrections to your technique rather than a full build-up.

Do I need the bridge preparation module?

It's optional, but recommended for specialty-program applicants and required by certain schools (for example, the maxillary anterior ACC bridge prep for the University of Puerto Rico).

Where is the training held?

In our Paramus, NJ studio at 81 E State Route 4, Suite 102, Paramus, NJ 07652.

How is this different from a large bench-test course?

Large courses put you in a big group with little individual attention. Here it's a cohort of no more than four, with direct, preparation-by-preparation feedback from Dr. Sidhu — so the wrong habits get caught and corrected, not just repeated.
